Coming soon to Mac/PC/iPhone/Dreamcast


You may have seen this on my socials, but I’ve ported SHARK TURTLE to Love2D. In terms of code the game grid class is the only thing that I carried across. Given that Playdate SDK was inspired by Love2D porting graphics functions is pretty much one-to-one conversion you can do with a regex.

All windowing and user interface logic was done from scratch, given that this new version is primarily pointer/touch controlled, though keyboard control is still in there. The UI work has taken more time and effort than the original game at this point, but it is worth it as that code will be reused across future projects.

I’ve added nice touches like music fading during transition, support for Classic Macintosh “MaciGame” tile sets (a bundle of free sets will be available as an additional download alongside the game), and the ability to change the grid size simply by resizing the window.

Buyers of SHARK TURTLE for Playdate will get the PC/Mac version for free and a bundle will be available. The iPhone version will be separate and at a low cost. Dreamcast is almost a certainty. Not sure about Android at this point, we’ll see.
